Dockwise unwraps new heavy lifter

By Upstream staff

Rotterdam-based heavy transport contractor Dockwise said it had taken delivery of its semi-submersible heavy lift vessel Target, the second of six such tanker conversions for the company.

Dockwise said the vessel was delivered on Christmas Eve following submersion tests and sea trials. The Target was converted at the Cosco shipyard in Nantong, China, including an entirely new mid-section sandwiched between the existing bow and stern of the original tanker.

The 130-metre is capable of carrying loads of more than 35,000 tonnes, allowing it to move both semi-submersible and jack-up rigs.

The remaining four vessels are due for delivery to Dockwise by the end of next year.
