On the spot: partners in the Monza-1 well on Colombia's Llanos basin are still waiting for their drilling rig to arrive
More delays hit Monza probe
Australia’s Baraka Petroleum said the spudding of the Monza-1 well on Colombia’s Llanos basin had been further delayed after its rig was held up at its current well on the play.
Baraka said the well was now expected to spud in late January.
Baraka had already delayed work on the well from December as it waited for the rig to arrive.
The Monza-1 well will target fluvial sandstones in the Guadalupe and Carbonera formations to a planned depth of 1528 metres. Baraka estimates the prospect could hold 2 million to 5 million barrels of recoverable oil.
The well, on Colombia’s Chicuaco block, is expected to take about 26 days to drill.
Baraka holds a 20% stake in the joint venture operating the block, with Omega Energy Colombia owning 80%.
