West Triton sets sail

By Upstream staff

Singapore's PPL Shipyard has farewelled Seadrill's newbuild jack-up rig West Triton, the sixth Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 jack-up built by the Sembcorp Marine subsidiary.

The rig set sail from Singapore on 12 January and will soon get to work in Australia's offshore play.

The rig was delivered to Seadrill, on schedule, on 26 December last year.

West Triton is equipped with state-of-the-art drilling package that will enable it to drill high pressure and high temperature wells at 30,000 feet while operating in 375 feet of water.

It is designed with extensive deck space, a large jacking capacity for pre-load jacking, and accommodation for 120 crew.

West Triton has secured a charter with Apache Corporation for exploration and drilling in the Gippsland basin Permit VIC/P42 off Victoria.

Following that, the jack-up rig will proceed to work on well programmes on 3D Oil’s VIC/P57 site.
