Sarha-1 probe hints at riches

Australian player Oilex has hit oil shows at the Sarha-1 well, in Block 56 in Oman.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 1890 metres, Block 56 operator Oilex said. Logs are being run at the well and the results of these will determine whether the company runs production tests.

The primary and secondary objectives penetrated in the Permian to upper part of the Cambrian interval exhibited oil shows and increased gas readings from drill cuttings, Oilex added.

Oilex holds a 25% stake in the block, with Videocon Industries and the Gas Authority of India Ltd having 25% each. Hindustan Petroleum and

Bharat Petroleum both hold 12.5%.
