3D Oil makes Bass Strait splash

By Upstream staff

3D Oil is set to drill two wells in Australia's Bass Strait following the arrival of the newbuild West Triton jack-up drilling rig.

The rig was successfully floated out and arrived last month in preparation for its first drilling round, the Australian-listed company said.

The West Triton, owned and operated by Australian Drilling Associates, is scheduled to drill up to 10 exploration and appraisal wells in Bass Strait for a number of companies.

3D Oil’s West Seat Seahorse-3 well is expected to spud next month ato be followed by a second, Wardie-1.

WorleyParsons will carry out the front-end engineering and design work for the proposed West Seahorse development.

If successful at West Seahorse, 3D is planning an unmanned wellhead platform with output piped to a small onshore stabilisation plant in Gippsland, Victoria.

The West Seahorse field lies within permit VIC/P57 about two kilometres to the west of the producing Seahorse field.

3D Oil is the operator and 100% equity owner in two Bass Strait permits, the VIC/P57 licence in the Gippsland basin off Victoria andT41-P in the Bass basin itself.
