On the road: in south-west Queensland's Surat basin
Origin bites at Emu Apple
Australia’s Origin Energy said its Emu Apple-3 well on the Surat basin in Queensland had struck good oil shows in the Hutton, Boxvale and Lower Evergreen Sandstone.
Origin said the well, which spudded on 2 January, had been drilled to a total depth of 1484 metres on the ATP 470P licence, known as the Redcap Block. The well’s main target was the Boxvale sandstone.
A drillstem test of 12.2 metres of the Boxvale formation below 1392 metres recovered 1.7 barrels of oil and 2.3 barrels of mud and water over two hours.
A second drillstem test of the Hutton Sandstone between 1348 and 1357 metres depth recovered 6.1 barrels of oil and 2.6 barrels of oil and water.
Origin said the Hutton discovery represented a new pool within the Emu Apple field.
It said the well had been cased and suspended as a potential future producer.
Origin operates the well with a 22.5% stake for partners Angari (67.5%) and Santos (10%).
