UK-based Tullow Oil has handed driller Ocean Rig a three-year contract for development drilling off Ghana using its semi-submersible rig Erik Raude.

The contract is valued at about $700 million, or a dayrate of about $617,0000.

Stavanger-based Ocean Rig said the deal was a direct continuation of the rig’s current contract with ExxonMobil off West Africa.

The contract includes an option to extend the contract by either one or two years by the end of this year.
