Swedish outfit PA Resources has spudded the Didon-8 well, kicking off the third phase of the Didon field development off Tunisia.
Didon-8 will be drilled into the western compartment which is expected to hold recoverable oil reserves.
The well is designed to be a horizontal oil producer in the crestal area of the western compartment on the Didon field.
To begin with, a vertical heel pilot well will de drilled for data acquisition. The well is drilled by the jack-up rig Ensco 85 through a slot on the Didon platform.
The objectives for the heel pilot are to give a structural control point for the top of the reservoir and to gather information on the reservoir quality, including pressure and saturation profiles which will provide information on the oil-water contact.
The data acquired by the heel pilot will be used to determine the optimal placement of the horizontal production drain.
PA boss Ulrik Jansson said: "The Didon-8 well is expected to recover oil from the western compartment on the Didon field. The drilling of this well is one of the actions we are taking in order to increase the production."
Once the Didon-8 well is completed, the Ensco 85 will start drilling the Didon-7 well in the central part of the field. A
fter that, the drilling rig will be used for exploration drilling in the Zarat exploration permit, including the Didon North prospect.
PA Resources has a 100 percent working interest in the Didon field.
