Anadarko pays top dollar for drillship

By Upstream staff

US contract driller Transocean said it had won a three-year extension of its contract with Anadarko Petroleum for the ultra deep-water drillship Deepwater Millennium at a dayrate of about 535,000 per day.

Transocean said in a statement the contract could be worth a further $546 million to the company.

Anadarko is using the Deepwater Millennium to drill its Jubilee and Hawkeye prospects in the Gulf of Mexico.

Reuters reported that the new figure was a 20% increase on the original dayrate for the drillship.

The contract with Houston-based Anadarko will run from 2010.

The vessel, which entered service in 1999, can drill in water up to 10,000 feet deep.
