Chevron backs Point Thomson plan
US supermajor Chevron said today it supports ExxonMobil's latest plan to
develop the huge Point Thomson gas and condensate field in Alaska.
Earlier this week, ExxonMobil proposed a new development plan that would
fast-track drilling on the field.
Alaska began proceedings to cancel the Point Thomson leases in December 2006,
claiming ExxonMobil and its partners had failed to put the field into
production as stipulated by the leases.
Chevron, which holds a major stake in the ExxonMobil-operated field, said it
believes the new plan meets the stated objectives of Alaska's Department of
Natural Resources, Reuters reported.
