Discovery double boosts T&T war chest

By Gareth Chetwynd

Two recent offshore discoveries in Trinidad & Tobago amount to more than 2 trillion cubic feet, the country's Energy Minister Conrad Enill has said.

Addressing the annual Trinidad & Tobago Petroleum Conference Minister for Energy and Energy Industries, Enill said the finds by Petro-Canada and Canadian Superior would help the recovery of Trinidad's declining reserves replacement rate.

Canadian Superior Energy has issued a preliminary assessment that the Victory well, with about 450 feet of net pay, holds up to 1.1 Tcf gross natural gas.

Almost simultaneously, Petro-Canada's Cassra-1 well on deep-water Block 22 holds natural gas estimated at between 600 million cubic feet to 1.3 Tcf.

Both companies have outlined plans to carry out further appraisal and both are involved in wider exploration drilling off the Caribbean islands.
