Half Wei mark for Roc

By Upstream staff

Australia-based Roc Oil has drilled the Wei-6-12E-1A well in the Beibu Gulf off China to a depth of 986 metres and is running and cementing casing, partners in the project said today.

Sydney-based Petsec Energy said in a statement that the 13 and three-eights-inch casing was run before planned testing of the well’s blowout preventer, prior to drilling the lower 12-and-one-quarter-inch diameter bore.

The well, the second of three exploration-appraisal wells being drilled on Block 22/12 off China, is expected to reach total depth of 2520 metres by early next month.

Roc operates Block 22/12 through its China subsiadiary with a 40% working interest, together with fellow Australian players Petsec (25%), Horizon (30%) and Oil Australia (5%).
