Global Energy rig hits snag

Tom Liskey

Latin American-focused explorer Global Energy Development said it is facing a slight delay in getting a rig to drill two wells at a Colombian concession.

The company said today the delivery of a rig it has contracted “has been slightly delayed as a result of the previous operator performing additional activities”.

The wildcatter signed a contract with Saxon de Panama for the rig it will use for a back-to-back drilling programme at the Colombian Rio Verde contract.

The contract covers 75,000 acres in the central Llanos region of Colombia.

The explorer said the rig, which was expected to be delivered last month, should be mobilised "very shortly".

Rig mobilisation should happen in about four weeks, said Global Energy.

Global Energy, which has acreage in Panama, Colombia and Peru, also said that it chalked up an increase gross oil production of 11,931 barrels in 2007 versus a year earlier.

In all, the company said gross production for the year totaled 478,030 barrels of oil versus 466,099 barrels in 2006.

Global Energy said its net production last year was 413,775 barrels oil oil. That compared to 401,298 barrels of oil in 2006.
