Diamond Offshore semi-submersible rig Ocean Patriot kicks off a drilling campaign today that will keep it busy in Australia until November 2010 for operators Apache, Santos and Anzon.

The rig will spud its first well today at the producing Basker-Manta oilfield in Bass Strait for operator Anzon. The Basker-6 well is expected to take 40 days to complete. It will be drilled and evaluated prior to being completed for future oil production, Anzon said.

After the Ocean Patriot finishes work, Anzon plans to bring in an installation vessel to tie-in the Basker-6 well to the floating production storage and offloading vessel Crystal Ocean for first production in July 2008.

Santos will pick up the Ocean Patriot from mid-April 2008 through to late November 2008; and Apache then has a two-year term contract.

Anzon's dayrate is in the low $350,000s, while Santos will pay in the high $370,000s, said Diamond. The Apache contract carries a dayrate between $380,000 and $420,000, the company said today.
