Unplanned maintenance: at Shell's Scotford upgrader near Edmonton, Alberta
Scotford snag hits Shell oil sands output
Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell said that unplanned maintenance at its 155,000-barrel-per-day Scotford oil sands upgrader near Edmonton, Alberta, has cut supplies from its refinery there, which relies on the upgrader's synthetic crude.
Shell declined to comment on the cause of problems at the upgrader, when repairs would be complete or how much of the synthetic crude it refines from bitumen is now being produced.
Shell said it had begun rationing supplies of gasoline and diesel to its gas stations and commercial customers as it looks to secure outside feedstock for the 98,000-barrel-per-day refinery, Reuters reported.
