SembCorp breaks out PetroJack 2 bubbly

By Upstream staff

SembCorp Marine’s Jurong Shipyard in Singapore has celebrated the naming of the jack-up rig PetroJack 2, its second high-performance rig, which it is building for Norway’s PetroJack.

SembCorp said the yard was on track to deliver the jack-up later this quarter following this weekend’s ceremony. SembCorp build a total of four of the units by the end of this year.

Originally all four rigs were to be delivered to PetroJack. However, the Norwegian company, a unit of Larsen Oil & Gas, has since sold the first and third rigs on to a Danish contractor, SembCorp said.

The PetroJack 2 is built on the Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 design, and will be capable of drilling wells up to 30,000 feet deep in up to 375 metres of water. The vessel will have berths for a crew of 120.

The rig will be the eighth to the Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 that SembCorp has built of 21 on its order books since it introduced the proprietary design in 2004. SembCorp said the Jurong Yard would complete four of the units, of which it had delivered one, while its PPL yard would build 19 rigs, of which it had already delivered six.

The Petrojack 2 has already tied down a four-year charter from an international driller to work in the Far East, the company said.

The rig was christened by Sopee Nordaas, wife of Larsen managing director Martin Nordaas, who is also project director of Petrojack.

SembCorp said Larsen had also ordered a harsh-weather CJ70- design deep-drilling jack-up for its PetroProd unit, as well as three sixth-generation deep-water semi-submersible rigs for its PetroMena subsidiary.
