Cheney to lean on Opec

By Upstream staff

US Vice President Dick Cheney will travel to Saudi Arabia next week to discuss concerns about record-high oil prices.

Cheney is scheduled to meet with Saudi King Abdullah, where he is expected to reinforce a message from President George W. Bush urging Opec to increase production.

Bush had asked Opec to increase output during a visit to Saudi Arabia in January. The producer group instead decided to keep output at current levels when it met last week.

"Obviously we want to see an increase in production," said US press secretary Dana Perino. "Our message remains the same."
