Superior numbers take a slide

By Upstream staff

US oilfield services player Superior Well Services posted a lower quarterly profit, missing market estimates, hurt by higher sales discounts, longer holiday shutdowns that affected operating levels and higher costs.

The company's fourth-quarter profit fell 28% to $7 million, or 30 cents a share, from $9.8 million, or 49 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 26% to $94.9 million.

Analysts on average were expecting earnings of 52 cents a share, before special items, on revenue of $97.8 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

As a percentage of revenue, sales discounts rose by 5.2%.
