Global Industries lines up $35m barge work

By Upstream staff

Louisiana offshore engineering group Global Industries will use its giant derrick pipelay barge 264 to deliver two new contracts in the Middle East worth a combined $35 million.

Global Industries said the orders included a job to deliver and install seven platform jackets off Saudi Arabia and a contract to deliver and install two jackets plus topsides off Qatar.

Work on the contracts will start in the second quarter of this year, the company said in a statement.

"These awards in the Middle East continue to strengthen our position in the largest oil and gas producing region in the world,” said Global chief executive BK Chin.

“Global saw enormous growth in the region over the past year, and these contracts increase our presence not only in the Saudi Arabia market, but they present us with new opportunities in Qatar's solid offshore arena as well," he said.
