Kodiak eyes injection gas market

By Upstream staff

Calgary-based Kodiak Energy said it hoped to supply carbon dioxide for enhanced oil injection projects on Texas’s Permian basin after striking the gas in three formations in its Sofia-2 well in New Mexico.

Kodiak said it had struck carbon dioxide in two targeted formations and a third zone in the 100% -owned well. The well was spudded on 1 March and cased today.

The company said its rig was moving to spud the Sophia-1 well, while the Sophia-3 lease was still being prepared. The wells will be completed, logged and tested after drilling work on all three is wrapped up.

The bores are expected to cost about $320,000 each.
