Australian coalbed methane startup Blue Energy has named Bill Williams as its chief executive, and signed contracts to allow drilling to begin on its assets within the next two weeks.

Williams, who has been acting chief executive of the company for the last few months, has previously held senior positions at Queensland Gas Company and at the Australian unit of US gas player Duke Energy.

The Perth-based company also said it had handed out exploration contracts to allow drilling of up to 15 wellls on five of its coal tenements over the next six months.
