Bits keep spinning at Kupe

By Upstream staff

The Kupe South-6 development well has reached a planned total depth of 3385 metres and reservoir evaluation logs have been completed, while the five inch liner has been set and cemented and the well suspended.

Origin Energy said the Kupe South-8 development well is running the 8-1/2 inch drilling assembly to drill out the 9-5/8 inch casing shoe-track.

The Kupe South-6, 7 and 8 production wells will be drilled by the jack-up drilling rig ENSCO 107 to a vertical depth of about 3400 metres.

The Kupe project drilling campaign is being undertaken on a ‘batch-drilling’ basis. This process involves completing the same section of eac of the three wells before proceeding to the next section and is a more efficient approach than drilling the wells separately, said Origin.

Origin runs the Kupe project with a 50% stake, while partners Genesis Energy (31%), New Zealand Oil & Gas (15%) and Mitsui E&P Australia (4%) hold the remaining interest.
