Gabon haul: for France's Maurel & Prom
Onal flows cheer M&P
French explorer Maurel & Prom (M&P) said its Onal-901 appraisal well off Gabon had flowed unexpectedly high levels of oil during testing.
M&P also said the top of the targeted oil-bearing Base sandstone was struck 60 metres higher than expected.
The company tested two producing horizons in the reservoir rock separately. The lower Base sandstone flowed at 1100 barrels per day on a half-inch choke, while the upper part of the formation flowed at 2300 bpd on a 48/64-inch choke.
M&P said it would now sidetrack an appraisal well to the south from the drilling platform to confirm an extension of the reservoir and to further test its quality.
The well is M&P’s 17th on the Onal field since taking over the permit and its first appraisal since drilling the Onal-302 well to the north of the reservoir.
Onal-901 has shown the best productivity of all the wells tested on the field, to date, M&P said in a statement.
