Norway's Kongsberg Maritime will install its K-Log electronic logbook on Petroleum Geo-Service's newest seismic vessel the Ramform Sovereign.
K-Log will be integrated into a Kongsberg Seatex HMS100 helideck monitoring system and a third party IAS system onboard the Ramform Sovereign.
Kongsberg said that K-Log integrates sensors from various critical sub-systems, which means many logbook entries can be automated and sent to the shore office, enhancing an operator's ability to monitor and control its vessels, as well as cutting the time needed to log work.
K-Log product managed Stig Wahlstrom said: "We've been developing electronic logbooks since 2002, with the ultimate goal of replacing paper logbooks. The often conservative nature of the maritime industry has meant that the system has slowly become recognised but the idea of electronic logbooks has matured, which is validation for the amount of development and the belief that our team here has in the system."
The Ramform Sovereign is a third generation Ramform vessel and is one of the most advanced seismic vessels on the market. Its first charter will be with StatoilHydro on the Norwegian continental shelf.
PGS launched the vessel on 12 March after it was delivered from Aker Yards Langsten.
The new vessel is 16 metres longer than the previous Ramforms and has significantly higher acquisition and transit speed and 60% higher production capacity compared to the existing Ramform fleet.
The vessel features many new innovations, including the world’s first roll compensated helideck, steerable sources, dual workboat capacity and unique gear handling systems.
