Sonatrach takes bite of Taoudenni pie

By Upstream staff

French giant Total has ceded a 20% stake in the Taoudenni permit in Mauritania to Algerian state-run company Sonatrach, it said today.

The permit was previously 100% owned by Total. Total will remain operator with an 80% holding.

The deal has been approved by the Mauritanian Ministry of Oil & Mines, Total said.

In January 2005. Total signed two production sharing contracts with Mauritania for onshore Blocks Ta7 and Ta8 in the Taoudenni basin. The blocks cover 58,000 square kilometres. Following an aerial survey to obtain magnetic and gravimetric data in 2005 and 2006, a 3260-kilometre 2D seismic survey was carried out in 2006 and 2007.
