Aban answers jack-up call

India’s Aban Offshore has landed work of for its newbuild jack-up rig Aban 8 on an 18-well programme in the Middle East.

Aban said the drilling, which will keep the rig busy for about four years, will bring an estimated $300 million in revenues to the company.

The company said it had received a letter of intent for the deployment, which includes an option four further wells.

Work is expected soon after the rig’s scheduled delivery in the second quarter of this year.

The Aban 8 is being built to a BMC Pacific 375 Class design by Singapore’s PPL Shipyard. It is capable of drilling in water up to 375 feet deep.
