Blue Energy fires up in Queensland

By Upstream staff

Australian coalbed methane player Blue Energy said it had kicked off a six-month exploration drilling programme of up to 15 wells with the spudding of the Indigo-2 exploration probe.

The wells will be drilled on Blue Energy’s 100%-owned Queensland properties.

The Indigo-2 well is being drilled on the ATP 818P licence near the town of Goodiwindi. The well, which is being sunk by Depco Drilling Rig 26, is targeting the Walloon coal structure in Queensland’s Surat basin.

Two further wells will potentially be drilled on the Indigo structure on ATP 818P, depending on the results of Indigo-2, the company said in the statement. The wells have been targeted using the results of a seismic investigation at Indigo, it said.

Blue Energy is also seeking a second rig to drill prospects on its ATP 854P permit near the town of Injune, Queensland.
