Anzon Australia said the semi-submersible rig Ocean Patriot had drilled the Basker-6 well in the Bass Strait to a measured depth of 2850 metres after spudding the well on 6 March.

The well is being drilled to total depth of 3363 metres in the Gippsland basin before being evaluated by wireline logging, Anzon said.

If successful, Anzon plans to tie the well in to the Crystal Ocean floating production, storage and offloading platform.

First oil is projected for July this year.

Nexus Energy, which is merging with Anzon, said this week it might consider tying Anzon’s Gippsland wells into its planned subsea infrastructure on its nearby Longtom development.
