Khop-1 duster for Mauritania players

By Upstream staff

Minority partner Roc Oil said the Khop-1 well on Block 6 off Mauritania would be plugged and abandoned after finding only small oil shows in thin sand lenses.

The well was drilled to total depth of 4265 metres on the Area C production sharing contract, about 70 kilometres off the Mauritanian coast.

The Khop-1 well was sunk by the semi-submersible rig Atwood Hunter in 925 metres of water, targeting Albian-age sandstones.

The project was operated by the local unit of Malaysia state oil company Petronas Caligari with a 37.578% stake, while the company’s foreign exploration arm Petronas Caligari Overseas has a 35% slice. UK explorer Tullow Oil holds a 22.422% stake in the well, while Roc holds 5%.
