RWE set for North Idku kick off

By Upstream staff

RWE Dea is pushing ahead with development at the North Idku field, off Egypt, after landing a gas sales agreement with domestic gas suppliers Eygptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

The German producer holds 100% of the North Idku concession, in the offshore Nile Delta play, and made four discoveries from five wells drilled on the block.

RWE Dea has now started the first phase of the development of the offshore gas fields. It said that development and subsequent production will be carried out by the Suez Oil Company, a joint venture between RWE Dea and EGPC.

First gas production is planned to begin in 2010. Development will be concentrated in the offshore area closer to shore. The gas produced will be piped to and processed by existing onshore processing facilities in the nearby Abu Qir Bay.
