Helper boost for Marion in Utah

By Upstream staff

Australia’s Marion Energy said the Kenilworth Railroad 1-A well on the North Helper project in Utah had been placed on production at 1.5 million cubic feet per day from the Morrison formation.

Marion said the well had been drilled into sediments underlying the Ferron formation, which is producing coalbed methane gas, and had struck several flows between 5300 and 7900 feet. A fifty foot section of the Morrison formation was tapped at about 5550 feet, while the other shows will be tested in future offset wells, the company said.

It said the potential of the discovery was not known as the extent of the discovery had not been tested.

Production from the well has been tied into existing gathering infrastructure at the site.

Marion owns a 70% operated stake in the North Helper project. Fellow Australian Odyssey Energy holds the remaining stake.
