Anzon set to swerve Basker

By Upstream staff

Anzon Australia said last week it would sidetrack the Basker-6 well in Australia’s Bass Strait after striking the target sand lower than expected and below the oil-water contact.

The well’s objective was about 40 metres low to prognosis and all sands encountered were intersected below their individual sand current hydrocarbon-water contacts, the company said

The well was drilled by Diamon Offshore's semi-submersible rig Ocean Patriot.

The sidetrack well, Basker-6A, will target a point about 500 metres north-east of the present bottom-hole position and around one kilometre south-east of the Basker-3 producing well in the Gippsland basin.

The sidetrack is expected to take between 10 to 15 days, Anzon said.

Anzon plans to tie the well in to the Crystal Ocean floating production, storage and offloading platform sometime from July onwards.

Anzon is the operator of the Basker-Manta joint venture on 50%, with partner Beach Petroleum on 30% (subject to completion of a deal to sell Sojitz 10%), CIECO Exploration & Production on 10% and Sojitz Energy on the remaining 10% (subject to deal with Beach).
