Omega Energy has spudded the Mugello-1 well on the Chicuaco Block in Colombia, Australia-listed joint venture partner Baraka Petroleum said.

Baraka said the well was spudded late last week using the Pexin-6 rig and had been sunk to a depth of 226 metres.

The well is targeting fluvial sandstone reservoirs in the Intra-Carbornera and Guadalupe formations thought to contain between 2 million and 5 million barrels of recoverable oil.

The well has a planned total depth of 1500 metres.

Omega operates the Chicuaco block with a 63% stake on behalf of partners Baraka (20%), Trayectoria Oil & Gas (10%) and TC Oil & Services (7%).
