CNOOC seeks foreign help on 17 blocks

Reuters

Beijing-based China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) said today it will open 17 offshore blocks for joint oil exploration with foreign companies this year.

The blocks, with a total area of 45,817 square kilometres, include 13 in the eastern South China Sea and four in the western portion. Two-dimensional seismic surveys have been carried out on all the blocks, CNOOC said in an announcement on its website .

The company said it had begun offering consultations and would sell relevant data to interested foreign companies.

CNOOC, the parent of CNOOC Limited, opened 22 blocks of 114,050 square kilometres for foreign co-operation last year, but has not disclosed how many blocks attracted foreign interest, Reuters reported.
