Basker sidetrack hits depth

By Upstream staff

Anzon Australia said hydrocarbon shows have been observed after the sidetrack of the Basker-6 well in Australia’s Bass Strait reached total depth in the targeted Intra-Latrobe sands.

The company said logs were being run and pressure testing would be carried out on the well, in the Gippsland basin off the Australian state of Victoria, after it was sunk to total measured depth of 3395 metres.

The well is being drilled by the Diamond Drilling semi-submersible rig Ocean Patriot.

The well was sidetracked after the original bore struck the target sands higher than expected in water was thought to be the water leg of the formation.

If the well is commercial, Anzon plans to tie it in to the Crystal Ocean floating production, storage and offloading platform.

First oil is projected for July this year.

Anzon is the operator of the Basker-Manta joint venture on 50%, with partner Beach Petroleum on 30%, CIECO Exploration & Production on 10% and Sojitz Energy on the remaining 10%.
