Barents Sea project partners set to launch first phase of Arctic scheme


Shtokman team to kick off bids

Gazprom and its Shtokman partners aim to issue bid documents to contractors early next year covering the $15 billion first phase development of the Barents Sea projects.

Herve Madeo, deputy director of Shtokman Development Ltd (SDL) the joint venture company formed by Gazprom, Total and StatoilHydro to develop this initial stage of the Arctic scheme said that, after a pre-qualification process, bid documents would be released that would probably require a two to three month response time.

Speaking to Upstream, Madeo said the contracting strategy is being evaluated, suggesting that packages may not be broken down into the traditional floater, umbilical, riser and flowline and subsea production system elements.

A major gas export line and LNG plant are also required, adding to the contracting mix.
