Slovenia eyes South Stream berth

By Upstream staff

Gazprom boss Alexei Miller has had talks with Slovenian President Danilo Turk over the possibility of the country joining the South Stream pipeline, the Russian gas giant said today.

Gazprom said in a statement Miller visited Slovenia to discuss possible co-operation in the gas sector.

"The possibility of Slovenia joining the South Stream project was also discussed," Gazprom said.

The pipeline, which will be jointly built by Gazprom and Italy's Eni, will carry 30 billion cubic metres of Russian gas per annum to southern Europe.

Analysts have said the project will cost around €10 billion ($15.82 billion).
