Shahd shows off its goodies

By Upstream staff

Port Moresby-based Oil Search and its partner Sipetrol International have uncovered 17 metres of oil pay at the Shahd SE-1 well in Egypt near the producing Shahd oilfield in the East Ras Qattara concession.

Oil Search said that the well was sunk to a total depth of 3063 metres before being logged. Preparations are now underway to carry out a production test over the Upper and Lower Bahariya sandstones where the oil pay was identified.

Enap subsidiary Sipetrol, is the well's operator with a 50.5% stake and partner Oil Search holds 49.5%.

Meanwhile, the Cobra-1A well on Papua New Guinea petroleum production licence 190 has restarted and is currently at a depth of 1155 metres.

The well is targeting a sub-thrust prospect in the Iagifu sandstone at a depth of 3100 metres.

Oil Search operates the well with a 62.556% stake on behalf of partners Murray Petroleum (26.497%) and Cue PNG Oil Company (10.947%).
