Berlusconi eyes closer Russian ties
Italian Prime Minister-elect Silvio Berlusconi said today he wanted to
strengthen the country's co-operation with Russia on energy.
Berlusconi was speaking at a news conference after meeting Russian President
Vladimir Putin in Sardinia.
Putin said there was a wide scope for the two countries' co-operation on
energy.
Italian producer Eni and Russia's gas giant Gazprom formed a strategic
partnership in 2006 to focus on both upstream and downstream in the oil and
gas sectors, including an exchange of assets.
