Latest jobsItalian energy giant Eni and state-owned Qatar Petroleum have signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue “opportunities of mutual interest” in Qatar, the Mediterranean basin and north Africa.
Eni said in a statement the memorandum was signed by chief executive Paulo Scaroni and Qatari Energy Minister Abdullah al-Attiyah on thesidelines of the International Energy Forum in Italy yesterday.
Attiyah said the preliminary deal was a step towards the company’s goal of developing projects in Africa and the Mediterranean with regional partners.
Scaroni said Eni was pleased to work with Qatar Petroleum on new projects. He said Qatar, home to the world’s third-biggest gas reserves, was an important partner for the company.
Qatar is aiming to use its massive gas reserves and strategic geographical position to take a leading role in the booming global liquefied natural gas market.
Under the memorandum, the companies will pursue opportunities “of mutual interest” in new and existing oil and gas fields. The agreement also “envisages the development of joint projects in the petrochemical industry and power generation”.
