First oil flows from Guneshli taps

By Upstream staff

The BP-led Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) has started oil production at the Guneshli field, part of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) complex in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.

The ACG fields are being developed by the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC).

BP said that the deep-water Guneshli complex is located in a water depth of 175 metres on the east side of the Guneshli field. The complex comprises two platforms - a drilling and production platform bridge linked to a water injection and gas compression platform.

Production will increase this year as other pre-drilled wells are brought on stream, ahead of platform drilling starting.

At plateau production, the Guneshli complex will produce 320,000 barrels per day, bringing total ACG oil production, including Chirag, East Azeri, West Azeri and Central Azeri, to over 1 million barrels per day.

Other AIOC partners include ExxonMobil, Chevron and Devon Energy. Operator BP has a 34% stake in the fields.
