Colombia celebrates output booster

Colombian oil production in January and February this averaged 559,500 barrels per day, the highest level in six years, Armando Zamora, the head of regulator ANH said.

Zamora told BNamericas that oil output in January totalled 557,000 bpd, rising to 562,000 bpd in February. Production in 2007 averaged 531,000 bpd.

Colombia's oil production reached an annual high of 838,000 bpd in 1999, according to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy published in June last year.

Earlier this year, state-run Ecopetrol announced it would invest $60 billion in a bid to boost output by 12% per annum to 1 million bpd by 2012.

Last year, Ecopetrol pumped 399,000 barrels of oil equivalent epr day.

Last year, 70 exploration wells were drilled in the country, 27 of which became producers.
