Seabird lands Angola seabed node work

By Upstream staff

Oslo-listed Seismic survey player Seabird Exploration has won its first seabed node seismic survey contract with an award from French giant Total for work on Angola’s deep-water Block 17.

Seabird said the contract was worth about $25 million.

It said the survey would be shot in water around 1300 metres deep and was expected to take four months.

Seabird said its Hugin Explorer vessel was being converted to a node survey vessel and was expected to start work off Angola in the early part of the third quarter of this year.

“We see great potential for the future in reservoir imaging and 4C / 4D applications,” said Seabird chief executive Tim Isden.

Total operates Block 17 with a 40% stake.
