Test confirms Shahd flows

By Upstream staff

New Guinea-based Oil Search said the Sipetrol-operated Shahd South-East-1 well in the East Ras Qattara concession in Egypt's Western Desert had flowed at an average rate of 2500 barrels of oil per day during its main production test this week.

Oil Search said the well flowed light oil through a half-inch choke during the test following a pressure build-up period.

The company said in a statement today the well had now been completed as a producer and the rig had moved to complete the Rana-1 discovery well on the same licence.

Sipetrol operates the well with a 50.5% stake. Oil Search is in the process of selling its 49.5% stake to Kuwait Energy.

Oil Search also said the North-West Paua well had hit total depth of 3085 metres in its third sidetrack on Papua New Guinea Petroleum Development Licence 5.

The well was logged and liner was being run, the company said.

Oil shows were reported during drilling in the Toro and Iagifu sandstones. The well is targeting the Toro and Digimu sandstones.
