Partners in giant Brazil oilfield get pilot production under way with FPSO contract and plan to use well tests to explore long-term system options

Petrobras fast tracks Tupi solution

By Gareth Chetwynd

Petrobras and its partners are pursuing a multi-faceted development programme for the giant Tupi discovery, hoping to combine fast-tracked early production systems with a long-term planning process that will extract maximum value from the project.

Petrobras has just confirmed the selection of Norway's BW Offshore to supply a compact floating production, storage and offloading unit to carry out extended well tests on the pre-salt field. Tupi reserves are currently estimatedat between 5 billion and 8 billion barrels, with an API gravity of 28 to 30 degrees.

The state-controlled company was also poised this week to issue a tender for a 100,000 barrel-per-day FPSO to carry out a pilot production project.
