Woodside to sideline NWSV Train 1

By Upstream staff

Woodside, the operator of Australia’s North-West Shelf venture (NWSV), said it would shut down the project’s original liquefied natural gas compression unit, Train 1, at the Karratha plant in Western Australia for about 30 days of maintenance next week.

The shutdown will coincide with the shut in for maintenance of the venture’s Goodwyn gas production platform, Bloomberg reported.

Train 1 has the capacity to produce up to 2.5 million tonnes of LNG per year. It is one of four production units at the facility with total output capacity of 11.9 million tonnes per year. A fifth train is due to start up in the fourth quarter, boosting output by 37%.

Woodside’s vice president for the North West Shelf, Eve Howell, told Bloomberg last month the project’s Train 4 would be shut down in September for similar maintenance work. She said neither of the stoppages would affect loadings or production forecasts.

The six equal partners in the North West Shelf joint venture are Woodside, BHP Billiton, Chevron, BP,Shell and Japan Australia LNG (MiMi), a joint venture of Mitsubishi and Mitsui & Company.
