Field partner Devon Energy said this week that the current well at St Malo in Walker Ridge block 678 will be drilled as a future producer and a possible candidate for an extended well test in 2009.
The well, St Malo-4, was recently suspended due to an engine room fire on board Transocean drillship Discoverer Deep Seas.
The Chevron-operated probe, drilling on top of the field’s large four-way closure, is expected to recommence in around 60 days.
Supermajor BP is eying an extended well test at its Kaskida find in Keathley Canyon block 292 sometime in 2010.
According to partner Devon, the owners currently are drilling ahead on the Kaskida-1 sidetrack-2 well.
The group hopes to obtain new cores, oil samples and pressure data from the probe.
A follow-up appraisal is slated for 2009, which may be the well tested the following year.
Devon currently is drilling the second appraisal well at the Chevron-led Jack discovery in Walker Ridge block 758.
The Jack-3 well – being drilled by Diamond Offshore semisub Ocean Endeavour – is a down-dip, south-western step-out from the previous two Jack wells.
Devon expects the 150-day probe to reach total depth sometime in the third quarter.
The partners previously flow-tested the Jack-2 well with good results.
The 30-day exercise carried a price tag well in excess of $100 million.
The well flowed over 6,000 barrels of crude per day from less than half of the pay interval encountered.
Next up for Devon in the lower tertiary is a test of its Bass prospect in Keathley Canyon block 596.
The operator will use an upcoming slot on Diamond Offshore semisub Ocean Baroness to drill the well.
The rig currently is drilling an appraisal on the Pony discovery for Hess.
