Empty spaces: production stops as some 6,000 workers go on strike
Petrotrin workers walk off
About 6000 permanent and contract employees of Trinidad and Tobago’s state-owned oil company Petrotrin have been on strike for nearly two days, halting production.
The workers' grievances include health and safety concerns that have led to work stoppages in the past.
Union leaders claim Petrotrin management has let promises go unfulfilled for as long as four years.
Petrotrin’s plans to lease and sell certain properties have also fuelled fears of layoffs.
The strike began yesterday.
