StatoilHydro adds to Alve tally

By Upstream staff

StatoilHydro has proved up even more reserves at the Alve field, in production licence 159B off Norway, with well 6507/3-5S hitting between 3 billion and 5 billion cubic metres of recoverable gas condensate.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said the well, drilled about 16 kilometres south-west of the Norne field, was an exploration extension of a production well at Alve.

A thin oil zone under the gas was also proven, the NPD said.

The well will be temporarily plugged and completion of the previously-proved reservoir is planned for in the autumn 2008. The gas in the Alve field will be routed to Norne.

The Alve partners - operator StatoilHydro and Denmark's Dong - will now weigh up their options for exploiting the extra reserves.

Well 6507/3-5 S was drilled by the semi-submersible drilling rig Ocean Vanguard to a total depth of 3834 metres and was terminated in rocks of Lower Jurassic age.

StatoilHydro has an 85% stake in PL159B, with Dong holding the remainder.
