Latest jobsKuwait has signed a $150 million contract with US company Excelerate Energy to build liquefied natural gas facilities at Ahmadi port by April next year.
The deal with Excelerate was signed on 31 March to allow Kuwait to start importing LNG, in a bid to counter the power shortages the country faces during its peak summer period.
Following completion of the facilities at Ahmadi, the country plans to start importing LNG in May 2009, said state refiner Kuwait National Petroleum in a statement.
Kuwait is in talks for LNG with fellow Arab state Qatar, the world’s largest LNG exporter, wrote Reuters.
Earlier in the year the country said it planned to build facilities that would allow it to import 500 million to 750 million cubic feet of gas per day.
